A little bit about me...
My name is Bonnie and I've had something of a passion for teaching since I was very young. As a child my family thought I would grow up to be a school teacher, but my love of animals meant that I was always destined to choose a career path where my co-workers had four legs and fur!
In 1990 I began working with horses and trained to be a riding instructor. I eventually went on to train with Kelly Marks and The Intelligent Horsemanship Association, gaining my Monty Roberts Preliminary Certificate of Horsemanship and going on to qualify as an IHA Recommended Associate.
In 2005 I began working on an Open Farm caring for a variety of animals from tiny harvest mice to cattle, pigs, llamas and sheep. In 2010 I was promoted to Supervisor of the Open Farm where part of my duties involved running courses on chicken keeping.
In 2013 I hand reared a lamb whose mum was too ill to care for him. I clicker trained him and together we would perform little 'displays' for the farm visitors.
Dudley's Display
In 2014 I left the farm and set up Active Animal Pet Care, offering dog walking, pet visits and providing 5* licenced home boarding and day care.
Having always attended classes with my own dogs and enjoyed training them in basic obedience and some trick training, and finding that I was missing the teaching aspect of my work life, in 2020 I began studying dog training and in September 2021 I began offering group classes.
I firmly believe that you never stop learning and I continue to study with a number of organisations including: The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), The School Of Canine Science (SOCS) and The Dog Training College (DTC)
